School meals

A healthy and balanced diet is important for learning, and we offer a range of nutritious school meals to keep our pupils fuelled for the day.

How to apply for free school meals

Free school meals are managed by your local authority. To check if you qualify and to apply, visit the government website or your local authority’s online portal. If your application is successful, both you and the school will receive confirmation, and the entitlement will be processed automatically.

To be eligible for free school meals, you must receive one of the following benefits:

· Income Support

· Child Tax Credit (not Working Tax Credit) with an annual income below £16,190

· Pension Guarantee Credit · Employment and Support Allowance (income-related)

· Support under Part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

How to pay

Arbor Pay

We use an automated biometric recognition system which measures an individual's thumbprint from which they can access school based accounts. This is used for students to access printers, photocopiers, and to pay for snacks and meals in the canteen.

Arbor Pay is a website which allows parents to make online payments to the Academy for school meals, trips (including those which are free of charge), and other paid school services. If your child receives free school meals they will need to use the biometric recognition system but you will not need to add anything to their lunch account.

Bringing a packed lunch

Pupils are welcome to bring a packed lunch from home. We encourage healthy choices, such as fresh fruit, vegetables, and wholegrain foods, to support their learning and wellbeing throughout the day.

Being aware of allergies

If your child has any dietary requirements or allergies, please inform the school so we can make suitable arrangements. Please be aware of allergies of other pupils and follow and guidance you get from school about what food can be brought in from home.

Breakfast club

Our breakfast club runs every morning and is open for students arriving after 7.45am and before 8.10am.

A hot drink and toast will be served to students during breakfast club. Please make us aware of any dietary needs and allergies.

Aspens, who provide the food for our canteen, have started producing a student newsletter. Please use this link to view the most recent edition.
