Last weekend, Sam S, Year 10, Blue House, made the long journey up to Leeds to take part in the National Underwater Hockey (or Octopush) trials.
The competition was fierce as he was competing against a group of 60 boys from across Great Britain, some as old as 18 years. However, he was ultimately successful and is now a GB athlete, and a part of the final squad of 12 who will travel to the World Championships later this summer in Turkey. This is the culmination of 18 months’ hard training and commitment for Sam.
Sam’s journey to Team GB is sponsored by the IOW Council’s Talented Athlete Scheme and Wightlink, who have provided support for Sam to be able to reach this amazing goal, and continue his budding sporting career into the future.
As a school, we would like to congratulate Sam's success and share it with the wider Lift Ryde community.
Congratulations Sam!
